The Office of the External Vice President is responsible for coordinating undergraduate advocacy efforts to institutions and groups outside of the UCLA campus. The office works with local, state, and federal stakeholders to ensure that student issues and interests are being advocated for within the respective entities. UCLA’s civic leaders and student activists will find their home in the office while engaging in meaningful dialogue and action to further the accessibility and equity of higher education.
In May 2016, Rafi Sands was elected as the 2016-2017 External Vice President (EVP). Running on a platform of middle-income affordability and increased civic engagement, Sands hopes to work with more student groups to provide further opportunities with UCLA lobbying efforts. Sands ran under the principle that a good EVP advocates on behalf of students, while a great EVP empowers students to advocate on behalf of themselves.
The Office of the External Vice President is looking for passionate and qualified individuals to staff and support office initiatives this year. Below are the basic overviews of current staff postings, and the office encourages all prospective applicants to carefully read the position descriptions and qualifications. Qualified applicants who demonstrate strong interest will be offered an interview time between Wednesday and Friday of 9th Week (5/25-5/27), and those who accept offers should be available for both mandatory orientation during 10th Week as well as the 2016 UCSA Congress session in mid-August. More information will be provided upon acceptance of staffing offers.
On behalf of the External Vice President, thank you for your interest in higher education advocacy and student government. Good luck to all prospective applicants!
